Not Babri Masjid demolition, Aamir Khan’s Lal Singh Chaddha to show 1984 anti-Sikh riots?

Earlier, it was reported that Aamir Khan’s upcoming film will portray the 1992 demolition of Babri Masjid and the 2014 formation of PM Modi government in India.

After the speculation that Aamir Khan’s upcoming film Laal Singh Chaddha will show the Babri Masjid demolition, a new report claims that it will have the 1984 anti-Sikh riots instead. After the assassination of India’s former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards Satwant Singh and Beant Singh, India was torn apart by anti-Sikh riots in 1984.

According to an entertainment portal, a source rubbished the rumours of Laal Singh Chaddha featuring instances from the demolition of Babri Masjid (in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh).

The source informed, “It is the 1984 anti-Sikh riots that will feature as an important part of the plot in the movie.”

Earlier, a report in Deccan Chronicle said that Lal Singh Chaddha (a Hindi remake of Hollywood film Forrest Gump, which starred Tom Hanks in the lead role) will portray the growth of India as a nation in the last few years, including the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition and the formation of the Modi government (2014).

“Lal Singh Chaddha is not just a film. It will be a reference for the world to see what happened in India in the past few years like how the Paramount film Forrest Gump, starring Tom Hanks, did with reference to the US. Similarly, Lal Singh Chaddha will show Aamir meeting important political and historical personalities in VFX-laden visuals. It will also show specific instances like the Babri Masjid demolition to other current political and national happenings like the formation of the Modi government and more,” an industry source was quoted as saying earlier.

“What Aamir and director Advait Chandan clearly understand is that the film’s political symbolism at many places will have different interpretations and hence, they are assuring that it will not rake up too much controversy and will not inadvertently create trouble for the film,” the source added.

However, the makers haven’t made any official announcement as to what exactly will be showcased in Lal Singh Chaddha.

The upcoming film will also star Kareena Kapoor Khan in a key role and is scheduled to hit the screens in 2020.
