West Kameng district recognised for ‘excellent works’ carried out in ODF sustainability; receives Swachhata Darpan Open Defecation Free Sustainability 2019 award
The West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh was adjudged the best in Arunachal and the second in the entire country in Swachhata Darpan — Open Defecation Free (ODF) Sustainability 2019 Contest conducted by the Union ministry of jal shakti in New Delhi on Saturday.
In recognition of the excellent works carried out as team leader in the district, West Kameng deputy commissioner Sonal Swaroop was felicitated by Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, who is also the ambassador of Paani Foundation.
The event was organised by the Union ministry of jal shakti to assess the activities carried out by districts regarding ODF sustainability on key swachhata parameters.
Also present at the event were Parmeswaran Iyer, secretary, DDWS, jal shakti and a host of other senior officials.
The West Kameng DC was accompanied by state’s PHE and water supply executive engineer Niapung Konia.
Later, during the interaction, Khan congratulated the awardees and lauded their role as leaders on ground to bring about behavioural change in people and for making open defecation-free India a reality.
He urged everyone to work tirelessly and keep on imparting awareness to masses in order to sustain the achievements made.
Swaroop lauded the exemplary works done by the PHE department in the West Kameng district and said that achievement would not be possible without the tireless efforts made Konia and his officials.
She said that the team did exceptionally well in reaching out to the people in rough terrains and harsh weather and for doing extensive information education and communication campaigns which brought positive impact in the district.
