Aamir Khan is ‘very sorry, hurt and upset’ for not living up to expectations in Thugs of Hindostan.
Actor Aamir Khan doesn’t come with the ego that comes with being one of the biggest names in showbiz. He humbly accepts success, and candidly takes credit for his films’ failures, too. Last year, Thugs of Hindostan (TOH) tanked at the box office, and he feels like apologising to viewers “for not living up to the expectations”.
In a chat, he discusses success, films and if he wants to do more than one film a year. Well, for the last question, he says, “The pace has reduced considerably. It’s more like one [film] in two years. TOH was on last Diwali, and Laal Singh Chaddha will be out on Christmas next year, so, it’ll be a little over two years.” Excerpts:
Aamir Khan rehired Subhash Kapoor without even talking to his #MeToo accuser, or so she claims
Aamir Khan surprised one-and-all when he made a massive decision. The superstar is back on track with Gulshan Kumar biopic, titled Mogul. Not only has he backed the movie as a producer and is acting in it, but Aamir has also roped in #MeToo accused Subhash Kapoor as the director for the movie.
Knowing that he would be questioned for his decision, Aamir Khan gave a lengthy interview where he justified his action by stating that he felt guilty and had sleepless nights thinking a person was unemployed because of his big decision. Aamir also stated that in order to make a decision, he and his wife Kiran Rao met other females who worked with Kapoor.
Astonished by the U-Turn which Aamir took, the #MeToo accuser of Subhash Kapoor gave an interview to Mid-Day claiming this episode feels strange. She said, “I had commended Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan [last year] because it gave hope to more women to speak up about their own stories. But I had never asked for it from them.”
Aamir Khan: Will he be the last Khan standing? Far from being a serious contender for the numero uno spot over Shah Rukh or Salman, Aamir Khan has actually been the most consistent in starring in Bollywood’s biggest blockbuster of all time over the past decade. First, it was 3 Idiots (in 2009, which scaled that high. The record of 3 Idiots was broken by his own PK (Rs 339.5 crore) in 2014. Two years later, Dangal busted the record PK. Dangal (Rs 387.39 crore) continues to be Bollywood’s biggest hit as of date. Interestingly, all of Aamir’s biggest hits – also includes Dhoom 3 was released in Christmas. The actor’s success mantra is what has probably laid down the formula for modern-day Bollywood’s slant at content-driven entertainers. Among the Khans and also including most superstars before their era, Aamir was the one superstar who understood the importance of amalgamating solid script with commercial entertainment value. For this, he needed to avoid falling into an image trap – which let him play an oversized wrestler in Dangal with as much ease as he essayed a misfit alien in PK. Aamir’s problem now probably is that younger actors as Ayushmann Khurrana, Vicky Kaushal and Rajkummar Rao have picked up the trick. Although they are far from guaranteeing the sort of returns an Aamir Khan film normally gives, Aamir knows the film industry can be a fickle place, and fans can be unpredictable. The failure of his absolutely disappointing Thugs Of Hindostan last Diwali underlines the fact. The disaster that Thugs Of Hindostan was probably shouldn’t be held against Aamir alone. The film was a bad product, it would have crashed anyway. The actor’s detractors, however, have been quick to point out his 2013 release, Dhoom 3, would fall in the same category of brainlessness, and yet went onto becoming a superhit. If Dhoom 3 worked then, and Thugs Of Hindostan failed last year, his detractors hold it as a sign that Aamir Khan is slowing down. Aamir, it would seem, is best suited to survive age – not just for creative instincts, but for his commercial sense. He has selected the right script to return over two years after Thugs Of Hindostan, when his next release, Lal Singh Chadha opens on Christmas 2020. The film is a Bollywood remake of Forrest Gump and directed by Advait Chauhan, who directed Aamir’s superhit production Secret Superstar earlier. As a product in the making, Lal Singh Chadha seems like just the right one fans of mild, middle-of-the-road entertainers as 3 Idiots, PK and Dangal are awaiting after all this time. Aamir’s challenge right now is to live up to his image as an actor who ensures quality Bollywood fare every time without losing out on commercial value. With every film, living up to that challenge could obviously get tougher. But while Salman and Shah Rukh look increasingly headed towards a zone of unpredictability as younger actors close in, Aamir is most likely to adapt and survive. He is a bit like Amitabh Bachchan that way.
Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan who was last seen in the movie Thugs of Hindostan, is next acting in the movie Lal Singh Chaddha, which is directed by Advait Chandan, who had previously directed the superhit movie Secret Superstar that had Aamir Khan in a cameo.
Lal Singh Chaddha is the official Hindi remake of the Hollywood classic movie Forrest Gump released in 1994. Directed by Robert Zemeckis, the movie starred Tom Hanks, Sally Field and was an acclaimed movie that won Tom Hanks the Best actor Oscar award.
Recently it was revealed that Vijay Sethupathi will play a role in Lal Singh Chaddha, and the latest update is that he might be playing Aamir Khan’s friend, reprising the role Bubba played by Mykelti Williamson in the original. Reportedly the team has modified the screenplay to have Bubba’s character as a Tamil person, and that Makkal Selvan will play the role.
Perfectionist Khan is all set to do a ‘Tom Hanks’ in his next ‘Lal Singh Chadha’, but is in the mood for a bit of ‘Dhoom Macha Le’.
His last Thugs of Hindostan may have sank without a trace at the box office back home, but the film along with his last Dhoom 3 will be screened at the Jackie Chan International Festival in China this weekend.
“Found an interesting old working still from the shooting of Inder Kumar’s Dil,” wrote Anupam Kher
Anupam Kher has a treasure trove of throwback pictures and he frequently delights his Instafam with them. On Saturday, the actor chanced upon one such throwback picture which happens to be from the sets of the 1990 film Dil. BTW, did we tell you that the photograph also features Aamir Khan? In the photograph, Aamir’s expression is simply priceless. Just like us, Anupam Kher also loved Aamir’s expression in the picture and he asked his fans to guess what the actor was thinking. Aamir, who is largely a social media recluse hasn’t reacted to Anupam Kher’s post now but we would love to see his response.
Sharing the post on his Instagram profile, Anupam Kher wrote: “Found an interesting old working still from the shooting of Inder Kumar’s Dil. The movie released almost 30 years back. The scene was shot on the Juhu Beach. We had not yet started taking ourselves seriously. Life was innocent. What does think Dear Aamir is thinking here? Will be interesting to know your thoughts.” He accompanied the post with hashtags like #throwback and #LessonsLifeTaughtMeUnknowingly.
Anupam Kher played the role of Aamir Khan’s father in Dil, which also starred Madhuri Dixit. Anupam Kher and Aamir have co-starred in several films, which include Parampara, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi and Rang De Basanti among others.

Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan urged people to conserve water as part of the conservation mission.
As parts of the country grapple with acute water scarcity, the central government on Monday launched a five-point water conservation campaign – Jal Shakti Abhiyan.
The campaign found two Bollywood superstar endorsers – Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan – who echoed the need for water conservation, contributing to a better future.
Just hours after the two posted videos of them asking people to conserve water, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised them for their efforts in creating awareness.
“Extremely valid points by @aamir_khan on the need to conserve water and create awareness at the grassroots level,” said PM Modi, re-tweeting Aamir Khan’s video.
The Prime Minister’s reply did not go unnoticed by Aamir Khan, who then extended his support to the new government initiative.
“.@narendramodi Sir, the initiative taken up by you of making water the fundamental and primary issue for all of us is an extremely important step. Our wholehearted support is with you,” he replied.
In a second tweet, PM Modi also responded to Amitabh Bachchah or Big B calling his wise words inspiring.
“Wise words from @SrBachchan, which will surely inspire you towards conserving water and urging others to do so as well! #JanShakti4JalShakti,” PM Modi said.
The videos, over a minute long, by both Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan were shared on the Jal Shakti Abhiyan Twitter account before PM Modi shared them on his official Twitter account that has 48.3 Million followers.
The time-bound conservation mission will focus on 1592 stressed blocks in 256 districts and will be centered on five aspects – water conservation and rainwater harvesting, renovation of traditional and other water bodies, reuse of water and recharging of structures, watershed development, and intensive afforestation.
The campaign will run through citizen participation during monsoon (July 1-September 15). An additional phase will run from October 1 to November 30 for states receiving northeast retreating monsoons.
On Sunday, during his monthly radio address “Mann Ki Baat“, PM Modi requested citizens to help conserve water.
Over the past few weeks, Chennai has been dying up, affecting close to 9 million people in the city. Severe water shortage has also been reported from parts of Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal.
Addressing the water crisis, Tamil Superstar Politician Rajinikanth had said last week, “As of now, immediate measures that need to be taken is saving rainwater. It should be on a war-footing mode.”

The English film traces the journey of this dimwitted man as he witnesses some of the most iconic episodes in US history. Similarly, Aamir’s character will also be present during some of the most crucial moments in the history of the nation.
Our source tells us, “Aamir is known to delve deep into his character. He had been wanting to make Forrest Gump for quite a few years but getting the rights took some time. But now, he’s completely devoted himself to the project. He is currently getting into the proper shape to play the younger Lal Singh Chaddha. He will lose at least 12-14 kilos now because he needs to look leaner than what he did in Thugs Of Hindostan.”
On one hand, there’s Salman Khan’s Bharat which began with the India-Pakistan Partition and ended in 2010. But Lal Singh Chaddha will showcase other momentous events instead. The informer reveals, “The movie opens in the ’70s with the India-Pakistan War of 1971. Advait Chandan, the director, along with Aamir, is sitting and researching material from the time zone. They are planning it on the lines of a socio-political drama. Along with that, they will also capture the whole period when Emergency was declared in India. They also plan to show the assassination of Indira Gandhi, Rajeev Gandhi among other events. Aamir’s character will age through the years and will travel to present times. Apart from the 1971 War, a brief part of the film’s second half will be about the Kargil War.”
