Aamir Khan briefly discussed Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy with Chiranjeevi when they met at the Kyoto airport in April this year.

Aamir Khan is keeping up with the work of his ‘favourite actor’ (his words not ours) Chiranjeevi and his post about the latter’s upcoming film Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy proves it. All the very best to Chiranjeevi Sir, Ram Charan and the entire team,” he wrote. Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, which is produced by Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan, is based on the life of Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy, who rebelled against the British rule 10 years before than the First War of Independence of 1857. Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy will open in cinemas on October 2.

Here’s what Aamir Khan posted for Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy:

Earlier this year, the Mangal Panday actor ran into Chiranjeevi at the Kyoto airport and he shared a picture from their impromptu meeting. “Ran into one of my favourite actors, Superstar Chiranjeevi Garu at Kyoto airport! What a pleasant surprise. Discussed his new project about freedom fighter Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy. You are always such an inspiration sir,” he had tweeted.

During the promotion of his 2016 film Dangal, Aamir Khan revealed his bucket list of actors he wants to work with from the southern film industry. “I look forward to an opportunity to work with Pawan Kalyan, and I also like his brother Chiranjeevi’s work,” Aamir Khan had said.

As of now, Aamir Khan is busy working on Lal Singh Chaddha, which is the Hindi adaptation of Tom Hanks’ Forrest Gump. He also has Mogul, a biopic on T-Series founder Gulshan Kumar, in the pipeline.

Yogi Babu in Aamir Khan’s film

It is known that Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi is all set to play the role of Aamir Khan’s friend in his Bollywood debut titled as Lal Singh Chaddha. The star comedian who is part of almost most films in Kollywood, has confimred that he is talks with the makers of Aamir Khan’s film. In a recent interview, while he was questioned about acting in other languages, he revealed that he is talks to play a role in Aamir Khan’s Hindi film and is working out the dates to see if he can manage to be a part of the film.

It is said that film is an official remake of the Hollywood movie, Forest Gump directed by Robert Zemeckis which got many academy awards. The movie was released in 1994 and starred Tom Hanks, Sally Field, Robin Wright, Gary Sinise and Mykelti Williamson. Aamir Khan’s shocking U-turn!

Aamir’s decision has now set the grapevine buzzing.

Aamir Khan, who likes to portray a holier-than-thou image, has justified his decision of working with #MeToo accused, Subhash Kapoor. In a recent interview to a publication, the actor revealed that he decided to be a part of this project as he was troubled that his action might have cost Kapoor his right to work! And that’s when he and wife Kiran Rao decided to interact with a handful of women who had worked with Kapoor in the past. He also wrote to IFTDA (Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association) informing them about his decision to return to the film.

Aamir’s decision has now set the grapevine buzzing. “Rumour is that Subhash Kapoor went to Aamir Khan and asked him to help out as he has not been able to move ahead with other projects because of Aamir’s withdrawal from the film. Taking cognizance of the fact that it was also affecting his family, Aamir decided to get back to the project and get him back on board as well,” says a source.

Another film industry veteran, however, feels that it could just be hogwash. “Aamir will release Lal Singh Chadha during next Christmas. How will he have the time to do that film if he has eyes already on the Mahabharata as well as on the Osho biopic? Subhash has a few projects ready, including a Mayawati biopic and is not finding a studio because of the Aamir issue. Now, with Aamir’s announcement, it will be easy for Subhash’s career to move ahead. By the time they reach the bridge to cross it, there could be yet another U-turn,” insists the veteran.

Aamir’s decision now is clearly a paradigm shift from the stance he had taken when stepping out of the project. Last year, the actor had sent out an official statement saying that he would not be working in this film. “At Aamir Khan Productions we have always had a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual misconduct and predatory behaviour of any kind… Two weeks ago, when traumatic #MeToo stories began emerging, it was brought to our attention that someone we were about to begin work with has been accused of sexual misconduct,” Aamir had said.

Aamir Khan confirms he’s playing Gulshan Kumar in Mogul, reveals what made him come back to the film

The actor also reveals as a producer, he approached Akshay Kumar, Varun Dhawan and Kapil Sharma for the role before he decided to play it.

He is known as Mr. Perfectionist for a reason. Actor Aamir Khan won’t do anything half-heartedly. It’s ‘one film at a time’ for him, but that doesn’t mean he puts other projects on the backburner. During his recent visit to the Capital for the recce of his next, Lal Singh Chaddha, the actor told us exclusively about his project Mogul (biopic on the late music baron Gulshan Kumar) that he had quit last year after MeToo accusations surfaced against its director Subhash Kapoor. Excerpts:

A lot is being speculated about the fact that you are back in Mogul. What’s the status on that?

If you remember, last year in October, I had tweeted that I won’t be a part of the film. But now, I have decided that I’ll be a part of it. So, I’m back on it now.

You support MeToo movement, so won’t this indicate otherwise?

Of course I fully support the MeToo movement. And I urge women who have complaints to formally lodge them with their ICC (Internal Complaints Committee), which every organisation must mandatorily have. Every accusation of sexual misconduct must be investigated thoroughly and rigorously by the concerned ICC, and strict action should be taken against people found guilty. Just to clarify, the case of Mr Kapoor was not a case of workplace misconduct, hence could not be investigated by an ICC.

Are you afraid that people will criticise your decision of working with Kapoor? Do you have a strategy to deal with such things?

I don’t have any strategy. I’m just doing what my heart says is right, and what my conscience tells me is right. At that time I felt that was the right step to take, so I took that. Today I feel differently. I’m going with my heart. Perhaps some people will be critical of my decision. But I’ve to live with my own conscience. So, I’ve done what my heart and conscience feels is right.

Did this affect your relations with T-Series and Gulshan Kumar’s son Bhushan Kumar?

I’m sure he was upset. This is a film about his father, a film that he is very emotional about. So, quite naturally, he was disturbed that I am not in the film anymore.

Who’s playing Gulshan Kumar?

I’m playing the role of Gulshanji. As regards the other casting, Subhashji will decide.

When you came onboard Mogul as the co-producer, after Akshay Kumar left, were you also to play the lead?

No. Actually, when Bhushan offered the film to me, I told him I don’t see myself as Gulshanji. He was disappointed, but requested me to produce the film for him. He was very keen for me to be involved in some capacity. I had loved the script, so I agreed to produce.

At what point was it decided that you’ll act in it, too?

Once I came on as producer, I said let’s discuss casting. I felt that I’d like to offer the film to Akshay Kumar. I was aware that things hadn’t worked out earlier between Bhushan and Akshay, but I still wanted to offer the film to him. So, I met Akshay and offered him the film. He did reconsider the offer, but things did not work out. Then I offered the film to Varun Dhawan, but he was busy with too many films. The other person I was very keen to cast was Kapil Sharma. I felt he’d pull off the character very well. But that didn’t work out either. Then Bhushan said, ‘You’ve done your best, aap puri duniya ghoom kar aa gaye ho, lekin mere father ka role karna aap hi ko hai. It’s written that you’ll be doing the film’. And the fact is that I love the script, and it’s a great role, so I said yes.

When does Mogul go on floors?

Well, right now I am fully into Laal Singh Chaddha. So, Mogul would be some time after that.

You made a very strong statement on Twitter when you quit the film. Why have you changed your mind?

Well, Kiran (Rao; wife) and I were producing Mogul and I was acting in it. When we were doing the film, we didn’t know there was a case against Subhash Kapoor. I believe it’s a five-year-old case. We’re not too much in the media space, so I guess it slipped our attention. Last year, during the MeToo movement, mention of this case came up. That’s when we got to know about it, and we were most disturbed. Kiran and I spoke about it at length. We were in a big dilemma for more than a week. Mr Kapoor was denying the charge. This was not a case where there was a complaint about misconduct in the workplace. Had it been such a case, it would have gone to the ICC, and they would have ruled on the case in a stipulated amount of time. However, this matter was in a court of law. ICC would have ruled within 3-6 months. Courts of law are known to take longer. Kiran and I have zero tolerance for any sexual misconduct. But without an ICC ruling, or a court ruling, how are we to decide whether the accused person is guilty or not. We’re in no position to do that. Who are we to believe? The person making the accusation? Or the person who has been accused? And how long will the case go on? How long are we to wait to decide? So, we reached the conclusion that, in this disturbed state of mind, and with so much discomfort, we’ll not be able to do the film. It was more of a personal decision, a decision we took for ourselves to distance ourselves from the film. So, without casting aspersions on anyone involved in the case, we stepped away from the film.

Subsequently, Mr Kapoor was removed from the film. T-Series terminated his contract. Then we heard that he was also dropped from some other projects which were in development stage.

Subsequently, we heard that whatever steps he was taking to put together a film didn’t go through, because nobody wanted to work with him. That really troubled us because we felt that our action had inadvertently cost a person — who is yet to be tried in a court of law — to lose his livelihood. And for how long? Is it for one year? Or ten years? We don’t know. What if he is innocent. We were very troubled. Laws of natural justice consider a person innocent until he/she is proven guilty. But until such time that the courts reach a conclusion, is it that he/she should not be allowed to work? Is he to just sit at home and not earn?

And so, we were in this troubled state for many months. I couldn’t sleep at night because I used to constantly feel that my actions have inadvertently caused a person, about whose guilt I have absolutely no idea, to lose his right to work and earn a livelihood.

Earlier this year in the month of May, that’s about four months back, I got a letter from IFTDA (Indian Film & Television Directors’ Association). I think Mr Kapoor in his efforts to get work had written to his association, IFTDA. So, they sent me a letter saying that his matter was subjudice, and that I should wait for the courts to decide on his matter. And until such time he shouldn’t lose his right to earn a living. ‘In all fairness he has not been proven guilty. So, please don’t do something that’ll destroy him. He’s a member of our association. You’re a member of our association. And it’s very unfortunate that he’s not getting work. What is he going to do?’ They appealed to me to reconsider my decision. When I read that letter, I felt even more guilty. Perhaps we’re doing the wrong thing.

And then we decided to do one more thing to allay our discomfort. We decided to meet a lot of women who had worked with Mr Kapoor. This was to just get an idea and verify it for ourselves, that are other women also uncomfortable with him? Has any other woman had any experience that was uncomfortable? If so, then that would make us certain that we don’t want to go into it. So we started that exercise. We met or spoke with around 10-12 women who had worked with him. Heads of Department, assistant directors, costume assistants, etc.

What we found is that, without exception, all of them spoke very highly of him. Not only did they not feel any discomfort with him, but rather they went out of their way to praise him. They said that he looked after everyone on his set with great care. Caring, sensitive and supportive were the words used to describe him. Mind you, both Kiran and I are fully aware that these particular women may have had a very good experience working with Mr Kapoor, but that does not mean that he could not have misbehaved with some other woman. However, I cannot deny that this interaction with women who had worked with him, did give us comfort.

And so, taking everything into account, I wrote back to IFTDA saying I have reconsidered my decision, and that I would come back on to the film.

Akshay Kumar hijacks Salman Khan’s Eid, Shah Rukh Khan’s Diwali, Aamir Khan’s Christmas in 2020 – here’s how

Akshay Kumar has about 4 movies coming out next year right from Sooryavanshi to Laxmmi Bomb to Bachchan Pandey to his recently announced film, Prithviraj.

Is 2020 going to be the year of Akshay Kumar? I mean, no seriously! This man is unstoppable and how! Although the superstar is known to have a reputation of releasing multiple movies in a year but little did anyone expect that he would book not one or two but all the celebrated festive holidays (Eid, Diwali, Christmas) next year with some of his biggest movies coming up right from Laxmmi Bomb to Bachchan Pandey to his recently announced period-drama, Prithviraj, the biopic on Prithviraj Chauhan.

While usually, it’s either Republic Day or Independence Day that gets associated with Akshay’s films just like how Eid is reserved for Salman Khan, Diwali for Shah Rukh Khan and Christmas by Aamir Khan, 2020 seems to be setting an all-new trend with Akshay taking over all the festivals, throughout the year…

Starting from Eid 2020, although initially Akshay’s Sooryavanshi, directed by Rohit Shetty, was going to hit the screens they preponed it to March 27, 2020 to make way for Salman Khan’s Inshallah with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. However, now with Inshallah getting shelved, AK didn’t think twice before booking Eid 2020 for his another film, Laxmmi Bomb – the official remake of Tamil film Kanchana. Salman is yet to make an announcement on which film would he be releasing on Eid in place of Inshallah but with AK calling dibs on Eid first, we wouldn’t be surprised if the Khiladi gets an upper hand.

Then comes the Diwali festive. Now except for last year wherein SRK’s Zero released during Christmas and Aamir’s Thugs Of Hindostan released during Diwali, Shah Rukh fans have usually got a Diwali treat from the star. While we agree SRK has suspciously refrained from announcing a film since almost a year now but even if he wants to come out with a release next year, Akshay has already booked Diwali 2020 for his first ever historical period-drama – Prithviraj. The actor just made an announcement on the occasion of his birthday today.

And finally Christmas 2020, which, despite being booked by Aamir Khan first, for his much ambitious project, Lal Singh Chadha, AK hasn’t spared it either. The actor will be seen releasing his massy entertainer, Bachchan Pandey during Christmas next year. More recently, when AK was quizzed about his box office clash with Aamir next year, he had said, “We have 52 Fridays in a year and even fewer holiday weekends. We make over 200 Hindi films a year while Hollywood releases 40 more and then there’s the South industry and other regional cinema. So, we should be happy if we have two big releases in a week. This year, on the Independence Day weekend we had three, till one bowed out.”

When Aamir Khan And Kajol Posed For A Selfie ‘After So Long’

Besides Aamir and Kajol, the Bachchans, Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif, Ranbir Kapoor attended the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations hosted by the Ambanis

The Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations at the Ambani household were a star-studded affair, what with the Bachchans, Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Aamir Khan and other big stars leading the celeb roll-call. It was a reunion of sorts for Aamir Khan and Kajol at the party, who were last seen together in the 2006 film Fanaa. The duo even posed for a selfie together. Kajol shared a selfie of herself along with Aamir on her Instagram story and she captioned it: “After so long.” Aamir and Kajol, who have earlier shared screen space in the 1997 film Ishq (which also starred Kajol’s husband Ajay Devgn), can be seen smiling with all their hearts in the picture.

In the photograph, Kajol could be seen wearing a black and gold saree, which she picked from the shelves of Manish Malhotra while Aamir picked a white kurta- pajama set for the evening. The actor finished his look with a pair of over-sized glasses. Aamir Khan, who isn’t very active on social media, hasn’t responded to Kajol’s post as of now. However, we would love to see the actor’s reaction to the picture.

On the professional front, Aamir Khan was last seen in Vijay Krishna Acharya’s Thugs Of Hindostan, co-starring Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh. The actor will next be seen in Lal Singh Chaddha, which is a Hindi remake of Tom Hanks’ 1994 comedy-drama Forrest Gump.

Kajol was last seen in the 2018 film Helicopter Eela, co-starring Neha Dhupia and Riddhi Sen. The actress will reportedly be seen in Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, which stars her actor-husband Ajay Devgn in the lead role. As of now, Kajol hasn’t announced her association with the project.
