‘Chhichhore’ looks like Raju Hirani’s world without Aamir – National Herald India

‘Dangal’ fame director Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming film ‘Chhichhore’ starring Shraddha Kapoor and Sushant Singh Rajput doesn’t seem very appealing the first trailer is long, and gives away the plot

After ‘Dangal’ everybody presumed Aamir Khan would once again team up with the very talented director Nitesh Tiwari.

Now we know why Aamir is not in Chhichhore. The film, as reflected in the lengthy and loquacious trailer, looks like the world Aamir, Madhavan, Sharman and Co inhabited in Hirani’s 3 Idiots. There is Sushant Singh Rajput, all ‘small-towned’ and hair-slickened with a vacuous grin arriving at the college hostel with dreams in his eyes and an itch in his pants. There is Varun Sharma, who for a change, seems the smarter among the two friends.

Sushant plays the wide-eyed ingénue to the hilt. When the girl on the campus Shraddha Kapoor, looking like a long-lost cousin of Ayesha Jhulka from Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar and Kajol’s mooh-boli bahen in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, touches Sushant (most appropriately) he makes a noise like someone fingering a raw wound. Ouch!

These’re unknown actors playing eager novices in a campus filled with hilarious hopes and kooky aspirations, the kind we saw recently in that under-celebrated web series Kota Factory. More interesting than both Sushant and Varun is the gallery of unexposed faces playing the student fraternity. They all seem exceptionally talented. Lest we forget, director Nitesh Tiwari gave us talents like Zaira Wasim and Fatima Sana Shaikh in Dangal. Zaira has now quit. Fatima is trying to seek and find her level.

How Forrest Gump makers agreed to sell the rights of the film to Aamir Khan for Lal Singh Chaddha

It took reportedly over 5 years for the deal of Lal Singh Chaddha to be finalised. The makers of Tom Hanks’ Forrest Gump were specifically keen on roping in the actor for the role of the titular lead.

We can say with conviction that all the Aamir Khan fans, by now, know about the next movie he is going to be seen in. It is Lal Singh Chaddha, a remake of the 1994 Hollywood cult classic Forrest Gump, wherein Aamir will be seen playing the titular role.

The film was announced on the occasion of the Thugs of Hindostan actor’s 54th birthday earlier this year. As per a statement, it took over five years to finalise the film’s deal. Many filmmakers had reportedly approached the makers of the original to purchase its rights in the past.

However, Forrest Gump makers were reportedly keen on selling the rights only if Aamir Khan came on board, as they felt that only he would be able to do full justice to the quality of the movie.

Aamir reportedly met the makers of the movie and initiated the talk about the remake. “It took more than five years to finalise the deal,” a statement read. Aamir is reportedly leaving no stone unturned and developing the film to his best.

Lal Singh Chaddha would see Kareena Kapoor Khan as Aamir’s leading lady and would be directed by Advait Chandan, who has previously helmed Secret Superstar, starring Zaira Wasim and Aamir.

From Shah Rukh Khan’s Kal Ho Naa Ho to Aamir Khan’s Mann – Rumours about films that turned out to be false

Over the years, whenever a Hindi film is supposed to hit the screens there are several rumours around it. Here are 5 rumours about Hindi films that turned out to be untrue once the film hit the screens.

While we have the world at our fingertips today and can gather almost any information about films instantly, there was a time when the rumours about movies that are up for a release used to travel the distance, at least till the movie actually hits the screens. In this feature, we’ll take a look at 5 such rumours about Bollywood films that were quite circulated and talked about but ultimately turned out to be false when the film released.

Here is a list of 5 instances when massive rumours about Hindi films were doing the rounds but turned out to be false:

Rumour #1 – Achanak (1998) is a remake of Hollywood cult classic The Mask (1994)

It was the time when Govinda was at his prime. He was one of the top stars of the Hindi film industry so it was natural that each one of his films was hugely anticipated. When the first trailer of Achanak released, a sequence in it led everyone to speculate and even believe that it is a remake of The Mask. The said sequence had Govinda in a similar getup as Jim Carrey’s from The Mask. However, when the movie released it turned out that the sequence in question was a part of a song in the climax of the film and had nothing to do with 1994 Hollywood cult classic co-starring Cameron Diaz. Check out the song Jhoomle Baba Jhoomle that featured Govinda in an attire similar to The Mask:

Rumour #2: Mann (1999) is a remake of one of the biggest Hollywood blockbusters of all time, Titanic (1997)

Starring Aamir Khan and Manisha Koirala in the lead, Mann was quite hot among movie buffs and trade circles thanks to its star cast and chartbuster music. But there was one more thing about the film that had become the talk of the town – the rumour about it being a remake of James Cameron’s all-time classic, Titanic starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. The reason for such rumour was that in the trailer of Mann, featured many sequences on a cruise. No points in guessing when the film released, it turned out that Mann had nothing to do with Titanic. However, it was a remake of another Hollywood classic, the 1957 hit, An Affair to Remember. Check out this scene from Mann below:

Rumour #3: Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003) is a remake of all-time Hindi classic, Anand (1971)

Before the release of Kal Ho Naa Ho, a large section of media speculated that the movie is inspired by Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Anand. In fact, in an interview when film’s director Nikkhil Advani was asked about this particular rumour, he had stated, “What I would like to say at this point is that it’s not like I or Karan picked up a VHS of Anand and said ‘Oh, this is the film we need to remake’. We wanted to tell a story. If it reminds people of Anand or it has certain tracks that are reminiscent of Anand, is something that hasn’t been done consciously. Anand is not a love story. Kal Ho Naa Ho is a love story between Shah Rukh, Preity and Saif.” Though Kal Ho Naa Ho was not directly a remake of Anand, the character of Shah Rukh had similarities to that of Rajesh Khanna’s iconic character.

Not Babri Masjid demolition, Aamir Khan’s Lal Singh Chaddha to show 1984 anti-Sikh riots?

Earlier, it was reported that Aamir Khan’s upcoming film will portray the 1992 demolition of Babri Masjid and the 2014 formation of PM Modi government in India.

After the speculation that Aamir Khan’s upcoming film Laal Singh Chaddha will show the Babri Masjid demolition, a new report claims that it will have the 1984 anti-Sikh riots instead. After the assassination of India’s former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards Satwant Singh and Beant Singh, India was torn apart by anti-Sikh riots in 1984.

According to an entertainment portal, a source rubbished the rumours of Laal Singh Chaddha featuring instances from the demolition of Babri Masjid (in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh).

The source informed, “It is the 1984 anti-Sikh riots that will feature as an important part of the plot in the movie.”

Earlier, a report in Deccan Chronicle said that Lal Singh Chaddha (a Hindi remake of Hollywood film Forrest Gump, which starred Tom Hanks in the lead role) will portray the growth of India as a nation in the last few years, including the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition and the formation of the Modi government (2014).

“Lal Singh Chaddha is not just a film. It will be a reference for the world to see what happened in India in the past few years like how the Paramount film Forrest Gump, starring Tom Hanks, did with reference to the US. Similarly, Lal Singh Chaddha will show Aamir meeting important political and historical personalities in VFX-laden visuals. It will also show specific instances like the Babri Masjid demolition to other current political and national happenings like the formation of the Modi government and more,” an industry source was quoted as saying earlier.

“What Aamir and director Advait Chandan clearly understand is that the film’s political symbolism at many places will have different interpretations and hence, they are assuring that it will not rake up too much controversy and will not inadvertently create trouble for the film,” the source added.

However, the makers haven’t made any official announcement as to what exactly will be showcased in Lal Singh Chaddha.

The upcoming film will also star Kareena Kapoor Khan in a key role and is scheduled to hit the screens in 2020.
